Spring at Oak Point Nature Preserves

Lily and I walked ~ 5 miles at Oak Point Nature Preserves this morning to enjoy the spring outdoor.

It was full of spring atmosphere the minute we got on to the trail by the oak point pond.

We heard bird chirping in the woods all around the pond. Two male cardinals were chasing a female - hopping from tree to tree; another female cardinal was left behind, singing loudly on a tree branch!

A female mallard was swimming lazily near the bank, and a male mallard was resting on a pile of dry grass.

As we were near the spill way, a fisher man exclaimed indicating he got a catch. We paused to see him pull in a decent size trout.

Leaving the pond area, we entered the prairie dotted by wild flowers here and there.

After crossing Rowlett Creek twice over  two bridges, we came to a ranch - a few horses were grazing at the other end of the grass land from the trail. A robin was resting on a branch, in a few seconds it flew away under our gaze.

We encountered a couple families with young children walking and biking, a few couples, young and old,  like us,  walked in the park to enjoy the green of the spring. There were also a few runners, and bikers

On the way back, we saw a egret standing in a swamp by the woods. We stopped to take pictures, during the process, it took off, flapping its wing to fly to a spot about 30 yards south , and landed. The whole process was captured on the camera and in the animation at the end of this post.
