The Highest Natural Point at Singapore

The highest natural point in Singapore is the summit of Bukit Timah hill, which is close to the city state's geographical center, at 163.38 meters (536.8 feet) elevation. For comparison, it is about 120 meter lower than the highest building in Singapore Guoco Tower, which is 284 meters tall.

We abandoned the plan to hike the coastline along ECP on August 28th, and decided to climb Bukit Timah, later that day, due to its geographical significance.

Summit of Bukit Timah

As the following chart shown (UV index numbers from weather forecast at weather.com), UV index is high (> 3)between 9:30am and 5:30pm, , very high (>7) between 11am and 4pm, cloudy or sunny.  We went to Bukit Timah hill  around 6pm, to avoid high UV, and to complete the hiking before dark.

When we got there, more people were leaving than arriving, parking was easy, and the trail to the summit was sparsely populated. The trail is paved all the way, but section of it is very steep (> 45 degree slope). Tall trees and dense plants and vegetations make it hard to see chirping birds, even when they were close. But Monkeys came to the trail to play, so they and us got chances to look at each other :). The trail is pretty short, just shy of 1 mile from parking lot to summit. We took a longer trail, cave path, when we descended, the total distance we hiked was just over 2 miles, with about an hour time. We got back home for dinner at regular time**.

Trails at Bukit Timah

*These caves were supposedly made by Japanese soldiers during World War II to store supplies (and some even say treasure). Nowadays, the cave entrances are gated with metal grills to prevent people from entering.

** Dinner was cooked before we left for Bukit Timah hill.
