East Coast Park

The first impression I had of Singapore was from the views and scenery along the highway, the first several kilometers out of Changi airport; that stretch of highway turns out to be the east coast park of Singapore. East Coast Park (ECP) is the largest park in Singapore, and is built entirely on reclaimed land with a man-made beach, where swimming is possible. The beach is protected by breakwaters. The park has barbecue pits, chalets, food centers and amenities for various sports activities.

On August 28th, a Saturday, we went to ECP in the morning, ~ 8:30 am. We parked near the west end of the park at carpark B1. We planned to hike the whole coastline there, 12km one way.

Surprisingly this place was full of people, jogging, running, biking! We were the odd balls there, carrying camera, wearing wide rim hats, and with umbrella for sunshade! We walked first toward the west end, which most people were moving toward to.

The trail we walked, started tracking on return

We walked over 2 miles in this section of ECP, and had some good time at the promenade section where there were fewer people: beautiful flowers, chirping birds (I spotted a small green bird a couple times, but did not catch it on the camera) and different views of the city.

But it was hot, and crowded from time to time, and there was not much shade from the Sun! So we abandoned the plan to hike the whole coastline. We drove to east coast lagoon in ECP, and walked along the coastline for a short distance. While I was taking a panorama picture of the coast, Lily walked toward the section I filmed already, and thus she disappeared as she walked to the past! We thought this photo was very interesting  …. it was sort of reflected the time-space concept in general relativity :).

We were also fascinated by the cabled water skiing at the wake park at the lagoon.
